It’s up to true me to look for the pearl in every experience. A last gift from Mum, before dementia set in, is a lovely string of pearls. A question often asked is whether they are real. I’ve no idea if the pearls are real in the earthly manner of counting coins and collecting loot. But the question nudged me into a sweet contemplation of the journey of selfless service…. of why give up oneself at all? in any manner? Learning to Ride a Bicycle With a smile, I often return to, what was for me, a special personal experience of learning to bike. I begged my dad for my first bicycle with all the typical excuses and promises. Finally, the day arrived when I received a classic red bicycle and headed out immediately to try it on, making a confident ceremony of ‘giving’ my big trike to my sister as I rolled ‘my’ bicycle to the street. And, right away after getting on the bike, I crashed.   And I crashed quite a bit before becoming disenchanted.
